Day six and seven: Lakes! Amazing lakes!

September 19th, 2015

We have spent the last two days exploring the Lake District.  It is so beautiful here.  We don't want to leave! Yesterday Mom and I were a little sore after our hike from the day before, so we decided we needed to take it a little easy.  The three of us walked down to the pier and took the boat to Ambleside.  We took a bus into town and found a pub for lunch.  We had "cottage pie" and were surprised to find it was just like our Shepard's Pie!  It was delicious!

At this point we parted company with Jeri and she made her way back to the pier.  She took the boat to another port and then went on a country walk along the water front.  She met back up with us later at the hotel.

Mom and I explored Ambleside.  We ate ice cream and just had a nice relaxing day.  We took the boat back to Windermere and did a bit more shopping.

Today we caught the boat and took a bus to "Hill Top" the home that Beatrix Potter bought as an escape from her overbearing parents.  Apparently she never actually lived in the house but she filled it with all the things she loved and it became her little oasis.  The home and gardens were breathtaking (I keep using that word but I don't know how else to describe it!) After exploring the house and gardens we found a spot to have tea and scones while we marveled at the countryside before us.

Next we took the bus to the village of Hawkshead.  Beatrix Potter and her family used to summer there.  This is where she fell in love with the Lake District.  We went to a gallery that houses much of her paintings.  We wondered around the village.  Jeri found us a cafe to stop for  gigantic pieces of cake.  SO GOOD!

Tomorrow we are off to Scotland!
